I would normally refrain from starting any topic on this Forum these days, since it is (and has been) pretty much inactive. However I have stumbled upon an occiasion that will justify me doing so.
*Ekhm*
Ladies and Gentleman, the 12th Season of the Pocket Monsters has just begun. Yes, indeed it has. Pokemon : Galactic Battles as it is called, will consist of around 52 episodes (6 of them have aired in Japan already). Which, my fellow board members, means that Pokemon Anime will continue its existence for AT LEAST an another year, with the season ending in late July, 2010. Until, that is, they decide to announce yet an another series, which is very (if not extremely) probable.
As for Misty (and pokeshipping) fans, well, you'll be sad to hear this, but she is not returning to the show. Not now, and probably not in the near future as well. Which saddens me as much as it saddens you.
The episodes themselves are basically, fillers. They lack any story whatsoever. Nice graphics compensate for that (to some extent at least), but as we all know, a good show is not about the graphics.
And if that's all true, then by the time the 12th season is over, Pokemon will be just 5 years away from its 20th Birthday. It will be also, 8 YEARS since Misty has left the show.
However, I'll keep on watching the show- dunno bout' you guys but I ain't quitting until the very end.
And that is all.

Well, as I have started the boycott long ago (around March 25th of last year), I cannot watch Pokemon, or buy Pokemon Related products, especially those that are after Misty left. As you said, Misty has not returned, not yet, anyways, but I do have a plan. BTW, I might need to tell you the Pokemon Company's "dirty little secret" as to why they removed Misty, or heck, the entire reason May and Dawn even existed, something that might affect whether you will watch the show again or not. Apparantly, the entire reason for Misty's removal was so they can have "eyecandy for us straight males". In other words, they basically created May and Dawn so they can have them pose in bathing suits and have huge amounts of Fanservice relegated to them, then throw them away when the sexual desires die down. I had suspected it ever since I encountered May that day, as well as getting a good look at her, and my suspicions were just confirmed by Masamitsu Hidaka's little interview that exposed that dirty little secret. I'll even post this statement for all to see: And, to further prove that this is legit, I am going to place the source link of this information: pokebeach.com/2008/07/second-pokemon-interview-with-masamitsu-hidaka-many-interesting-pointsThe "that's sexism for you" comment was from a blog, BTW. So basically, the sole reason why Misty was replaced in the first place was so we can have characters that solely exist to tittilate the male audience. I don't know about you, but I think that's sickening, capitalizing a female character for that sole purpose. If you guys want to bring Misty back, as well as to put a stop to this, I'd very much appreciate it. Well, I've said what I will say. Now, when this boycott is over, and Misty is back, I will definitely try to watch these episodes.

I quit watching the show YEARS ago and to be honest I am glad I did since it really is nuts compared to what it was back then. Basicallly, oldpokeshipper you are on a sinking ship the reality is the TV show is dying its not ranking much at all anymore according to the Anime News Network top 10 chart and the only time it does is during the gym battle or contest episodes and a few scattered filler episodes which feature battles. It did show up this week but its number 9 of 10, basically bringing up the rear or at least one of two shows that are. This is because of a collection of mistakes and bad decisions that the staff have made over the years and the main girl rotating door of doom is one of them actually its one of the worst.

I just took a peek at the ratings on ANN, and I agree. It doesn't even appear on the top 10 on 7/8 of the categories (that being Best Rated (by bayesian estimates), Worst Rated (by bayesian estimates), Best Rated (Weighted Average), Most Popular, Most Viewed, Most Underrated, and Most Divergent Opinions). In fact, the only top ten it appears in is top 10 most overrated (and that ranked first place, which, in the case of Overrated shows, is the worst level and not the best, as overrated implies that it doesn't deserve the credit.). Pokemon is dying. I'd rather save the show than let it tank further. It's even more apparant that it's dying due to the fact that the age demographic is little kids. I mean, why would kids who have barely even experienced life not be interested in the show and cause it to sink even further down?

Hey, wait a second. I just had a deja vu. Haven't we all said this year after year since Misty left? Yeah, I agree with all of you on every single thing- but one. Pokemon is not dying. Not by a long shot. It's losing popularity at worst, yeah sure, but dying? A dying show does not open new websites, and Pokemon GTS is a testament of just how MANY ( yes I said many ) people are still being humble pokemon fans. Hundrets-of-thousands. As for the show- I mean, c'mon guys. It's not like it brings huge profits anyway... it's the games and merchandise ( including pokemon cards ) that count. Pokemon officials don't give a monkey whetever you watch the show or not, because it's just a tiny ( maybe 2% ) fraction of their humongous income. And mark my words, Pokemon Anime will break world records as the longest running tv show of all time. It'll go on for at least a few more years, I reckon. And pokeria1, as for the eye-candy thing, I knew it ever since I watched the first episode of the AG series. And that is not just all of the "dirty" tricks that the makers use. I have my own suspicion that the show also attracts homosexuals, since James is a blatant example of a person inconspicuously acting like a gay. And there are hundreds of things like that. Whoever said pokemon was a kids show is a fool. lol visit pokemopolis.com for more examples.

You really are a bit messed up on that game popularity does NOT equal anime popularity and vice-versa. The websites you mention are for GAMES not for the TV show and GTS does mean Global Trade Station which by the way is a feature in the GAMES for trading world wide. The purpose of that website is to track trades being conducted or rather to give an idea of the scope of the trades. There are countless people who love the Pokemon video games and yet hate the TV show with a burning passion or people who used to love the TV show and now hate it for one reason or another.

Nickstr's right, the GTS is not really a feature of the anime as it is in the games (Heck, the first time they ever did a trade in, what, 7-8 years, was a regular, nearby trade. It didn't even have Dawn on one side of Sinnoh and Ash on another, which they would have done if they wanted to advertize GTS).
The Games may have high enough ratings, but that doesn't mean that the Anime can continue to exist. Also, seeing how stuff like "Super Mario Bros." was allowed to continue to exist via video games despite their animated tv shows (ie, The Super Mario Bros Super Show and it's sequels, which, btw, I watched as a kid.) being cancelled before Yoshi's Island.
For the record, I don't hate the anime. I am more hating of it's directional turn with the Female switch (especially for shallow reasons) than I am for the actual anime.

Guys, guys... I know what Global Trade Station is ok? I said it's a testament "of how MANY people are still being humble pokemon Fans". Not "humble pokemon 'Anime' fans". Seriously, you oughta read more carefuly.
Though I guess I could have rephrased that sentece to make it a bit more clear. So again, I meant to say that GTS is a prof of how many people world wide are into pokemon. AAAAND, since pokemon is mostly about merchandise (oh yes it absolutely is, remember that the show began just because the games were doing good- so there!) and the merchandise is going strong, the anime servers as nothing more than a bonus. If Anime was making up the majority of the profits pokemon makes, then pokemon would have have been taken off a long time ago. And since that's not the case, we have one answer- merchandise, merchandise, merchandise. The merchandise is the muscle of pokemon. And anime is a burden that muscle supports these days.

One can argue that because it makes a minority of the overall revinue to the franchise, that removing it would not affect the series in the slightest (despite what many people claim.). Take the Super Mario Bros. TV series, for example. That was created directly as a cash cow for the Mario games, and yet, when it was permanently cancelled after "The adventures of Super Mario World", it didn't even affect the ratings of the overall franchise in itself, as evidenced by the fact that they are still making Mario games today. I mean, if they can cancel the SMB TV series without any consequence to the Mario franchise, then Pokemon can do the same with it's anime.

That is exacly what I was trying to say lol. The pokemon anime does not make much profit these days, but there is something about pokemon anime that makes it diffrent to the SMB TV series. The fact that the pokemon anime will not be cancelled. Not in the near future. I think it's because the makers want to keep it. As a reward. They want to show other shows just how long their anime will go on for. Other anime series that were comparable to pokemon have long gone. Digimon (which, of course was a pokemon rip-off), Dragon Ball (Talking about the original series) and others like the SMB you mentioned.
But I think, that pokemon will go and on and on simply because the makers want to. Sure, it is easy to argue againts this as well, but then again time will show. I bet we will be seeing pokemon anime in the 2010's decade.

That might be but the show is just sad and pathetic these days. Its like a dying animal, you can either let it suffer and die a slow death or you can end its suffering forever. It really is a burden and there are other shows older than Pokemon which are doing far better Doraemon and Saze-san come to mind. Those shows have been airing since the late 1960s and mid 1970s continuously and are STILL doing incredibly well after all these years. These shows have several things that Pokemon does not such as a stable main cast, good writing and thus good plots, and stable and large fanbases. Pokemon on the other hand has none of those things although it did have a very stable fan base up for a long time, until the writers decided to switch characters out of the main cast on a regular basis. All the character switching seems to do is alienate people but you would not know that from some of the major forums since those people would watch the show no matter what state its in, no matter how bad the characters are, no matter how bad the plots are, and no matter how much swapping occurs since they are the die-hards who will be watching the show clear to the end well, many of them are.

Yeah, that's right. Well, I'm not one of those die-hards but I'm still watching the show just out of pure curiosity, but yes, everything you said is in fact true. The show is pathetic, and it gets worse as the time goes on, but as I've always been saying- it could be a lot worse. Hey, at least the games are getting better. ( In graphic terms )
