I have started doing partial restoration of Kanto Pokemon episodes mainly correcting color issues and reducing film grain in some cases. This is must being done to select episodes now in my case but I do have some examples of the work I have done recently on one episode which is rather infamous and only aired once in the US. This is the original version of the episode which was recorded onto VHS tape in Japan Here is my restored version of the same episode.

I guess you have all 82 episodes from the Kanto season then?

I actually do, even the three banned episodes as well. Not only that but the complete Orange Islands series too.

With the exception of the three banned episodes, I have all of these on DVD in the form of box sets. But I will admit that I have five Advanced Generation episodes and the dreadful Mastermind special which only appealed to me for one reason. As for the others my entire episode collection is a Diamond and Pearl free zone meaning you will not find ANY episode from that part of the series or even episode clips. I did try to watch a Diamond and Pearl episode quite some time ago and just hated it along with wishing I was deaf because I could not stand to hear Ash or anyone else talk.

Yeah, it is terrible at times. They just shouldn't have taken Misty out of the show, that was their fatal mistake. Sometimes I wish they could just end the anime in style.
I don't why I keep watching though... call it curiosity.

Every month, Nintendo get over 10,000 letters and emails asking them to bring back Misty. And WHAT do they do!? Ignore them.

That is absolutely right its a case of shooting themselves in the foot with not a pistol, shotgun, nor machine gun but a rocket launcher. Listening to this would help the show's faltering ratings worldwide by bringing people back or at least that is how I see it especially given that Misty's cameo episodes in Hoenn were two of the most popular episodes of 2004 in the US and did significantly better than May's cameo in Shinoh as well. I am not sure about Japan or elsewhere because the ratings I seem to find are just averages of the year those episodes premiered.

Every month, Nintendo get over 10,000 letters and emails asking them to bring back Misty. And WHAT do they do!? Ignore them. I must write one either. So, if there's so many letters and fans, why they will not show Misty in at least short cameo or something more. I can't understand this. All fans will be happy. Few years ago Misty's VA said that Misty will make cameo or something. And so far there isn't her.

I remember the blog post mentioned before and even translated a little bit of it but its kind of vague except for the part about hosting 10th anniversary specials in Japan. It does imply Misty making a future appearance but it all depends on your interpretation I guess. As for the avatar thing, I talked with someone in real life who is a Pokemon fan just last night and they quit watching at the end of Johto too but stuck with the games. This is a very common tale it seems so I guess for the people who are saying that "the TV show is doing fine" they happen to be DEAD WRONG if its this common.

I know I am double posting but have a way to back this up. Here are the actual ratings for Pokemon Diamond and Pearl in the US at this time. November 7th, 2009 - 1.0/9 November 14th, 2009 - 1.2/11 November 21st, 2009 - 1.3/12 November 28th, 2009 - 1.4/6 Some would say the show is doing fine but I don't think so. This is most likely within the death range for ratings where networks decide to drop the show because of it being unpopular. If Cartoon Network does decide to drop it, the network that picks it up will most likely be one that airs reruns of stuff that is over a year old and the original series is quite tempting to air for others because it is the most popular part of the show and the best known. The ratings are listed on this thread in Bulbagarden's forums bmgf.bulbagarden.net/showthread.php?t=49267

It did, even RERUNS of it today had higher ratings than Diamond and Pearl first run episodes have. Some would blame the time slot but I think otherwise given its very clear that its been overshadowed by so much today. Only the older episodes (pre Advanced Generation) would do well these days.

Well let me sum it up guys, the show needs to come within an inch to death before anything is done about it.
