For your convenience, Serena will be called SI (Stands for Self Insert).
So...Serena (XY girl) is Ash's childhood friend, and she has a crush on him. All I have to say is...
...
WTF?! No longer is Misty Ash's first female friend (pretty sure this was stated in all versions) or Gary his first childhood friend. Instead, Self Insert has known him since childhood, and she apparently has a crush on him. Now, some people think it won't go anywhere, and it very well may not, but then why hype it up to begin with? Oh, right, they suck at writing.
Anyway, if it goes beyond simple hints, this means that everything they've done with Misty/Pokeshipping...dropped for the sake of this garbage. There's even a scene of Ash and Self Insert - as kids - holding hands.
What do you think of Serena and the way they retconned her into Ash's childhood? Do you think it's cheapening Misty, or anything/anyone else, or do you like it, or are you neutral?

Do you think it's cheapening Misty, or anything/anyone else, or do you like it, or are you neutral? I've heard about Serena and Ash being old friends. Can't comment one way or another on Serena herself, but inserting her as an old friend that predated Misty or even Gary Oak is, frankly, poor writing. As you mentioned, Gary and Misty were already established to have been Ash's first childhood friends. Probably Molly as well, or at least an acquaintance, and it really makes Ash seem really bad as well that he didn't seem to acknowledge her at all. Yeah, Gary Oak didn't acknowledge knowing Ash in the first episode, but based on how he was behaving, I'd argue that was more behaving out of arrogance instead of his literally not knowing who he is (besides, they're from the same rural neighborhood, so there's no way they wouldn't have at least heard of him). Though to be honest, I wouldn't really be surprised that the writers would treat Misty badly. They made her a literal punching bag for pokemon trainers to get to a league, similar almost to pre-BW TRio (Jessie James and Meowth), making her go below her potential, with the excuse of her sisters being out of town (and based on how she was trying to delay returning to Cerulean Gym in her last main series appearance, she pretty clearly didn't like having to run the gym), yet when it came to Brock, whom as both his Hoso and a similar episode during BF proved, his family proved to be even worse at the job than her sisters, yet they somehow managed to pass with flying colors despite the problems of safety and "coolness" (which would have been an "F" had that been a school test, since there were two thirds wrong with it), not to mention they replaced her solely so they'd have eyecandy... You can guess where I'm trying to get at here. Replacing Misty was a very big mistake, and the writers are obviously ignoring the fans right now, which is yet another big mistake. It even shows with the declining ratings.

Speaking of ratings did you hear that XY's prologue was a whole 4 points lower than DP and BW's prologue? Now, it might be just because baseball aired on the same day, which is what a lot of people theorized, but either way, it doesn't LOOK GOOD for the anime.
Inserting her as an old friend proves they can't make her interesting on her own.

They'll probably get even worse things than that if people point out that the fanservice to various female characters (May and Dawn especially) is near-borderline child porn, as they'll get a lawsuit, may have to shut down the show, maybe even face prisontime. Although I boycott the show until the show is either cancelled or otherwise they bring Misty back, there is one movie in the franchise where, even if Misty is in it, I absolutely refuse to watch. That movie is the Zoaroak movie, since they had a lead character in that movie who was explicitly stated by the writers to have been based directly on Michael Moore, and he's one of the protagonists. Putting aside politics, his "documentaries" are filled with falsehoods that can be easily proven, and were deliberately done falsehoods not to mention.

You want the creators of a show to be imprisoned just because they cut out your favorite character. Wow.

You want the creators of a show to be imprisoned just because they cut out your favorite character. Wow. No, I don't want them imprisoned at all. However, subjecting 10 year old girls to the kind of fanservice they place the girls in (May and Dawn, especially) IS illegal, as that's pretty much child porn distribution. Had they not blatantly done that after removing Misty, while I'd still be disappointed in their decision, it at least wouldn't be unethical, unlike what they were doing there. I mean, it's one thing to subject Bulma to that kind of fanservice, since she's sixteen and thus not actually a kid. However, May and Dawn are 10 years old, and as such making them that sexualized, regardless of whether Misty was removed or not, is illegal. Heck, even if Misty was never removed at all and they still did it with May and Dawn, guess what, I'd still be calling for their imprisonment anyways. Heck, the imprisonment idea was actually something I came up with fairly recently, largely because I realized the horrifying implications of what the kinds of fanservice May and Dawn are being subjected to (and remember, they're 10 years old, meaning not even early teenagers, and thus still kids). Even in Japan, distribution of child pornography is illegal.

There is no porn in the pokemon anime. AT ALL. I've seen the whole original series, AG and DP and there's isn't a single scene with pornographic themes. You're exaggerating way too much here. All "eye candy" was meant to do was to make the female companions more appealing by drawing them more accurately and giving them more feminine clothing but that's not objectification nor is it pornography. You could argue that Ash and all other male characters were also objectified since they were majorly revamped in BW and XY. Basically eye candy for female viewers. But that's nowhere near pornography and if you think it is, then you've obviously never seen porn.
Back on topic though - I can't help but laugh. Laugh because at this point there is nothing the makers won't do to boost up the ratings and I seriously don't care.

Laugh because at this point there is nothing the makers won't do to boost up the ratings and I seriously don't care. I wish I could say that I did not see porn. Unfortunately, I did (though fortunately none relating to Pokémon), and have gone to Confession multiple times as a result. And BTW, the way the director was saying eye-candy indicated tittilating the male audience. True, May and Dawn weren't actually shown naked at all, but May came extremely close when they showed her actually changing, in public (based on Max's reaction), into a bathing suit. And I really wouldn't call May "accurate" (Had she been 16, or even 14, I could say she was accurate, but they gave her a chest way too big, especially for a 10 year old, and I can't see any real purpose for even giving May a rack and making her 10). Even if Dawn wasn't actually given fanservice, May still cut it very close, especially with the episode where she effectively stripped in public (there's even a GIF on it). And either way, it's pretty much a given the writers will do something very reckless to boost ratings, maybe even do something lewd. I know West Wing and Heroes did similar actions for their final seasons (specifically showing two sex scenes between Diane and Josh in one episode and turning Claire Bennet into at the very least a bisexual woman, if not a full lesbian, respectively) in what was a desperate attempt to boost ratings. They are indeed losing their market ever since they removed Misty (heck, one of the few instances the ratings actually increased was when Misty returned. Ironically, they failed to capitalize on that).

Oh my... speak of the devil... Mayumi Iizuka just retweeted this message by Junichi Masuada from GameFreak:
みなさん、ポケモーニングっ!もうすぐポケモンゲット☆TVはじまるよー!今日はスキャンダルさん登場!楽しみ!!
Translation: All the Pokemon boobs! Soon Pokemon get ☆ TV hajimaruyo-! Today the scandal, it appeared! Looking forward!
Source:
This doesn't sound good, and based on a tweet made by Iizuka herself 3 hours ago, apparently Misty will be involved in this scandal...
EDIT: Okay, it might be referring to the band "Scandal" for the upcoming movie, although the way bing translated the Japanese announcement made it seem as though Pokémon actually WAS suffering from a scandal.
