Here's my explaination:

It was confirmed in "Battle of the Badge" that Ash and company had been traveling in Kanto for a year, so let's start off by saying since Ash started his journey on his 10th birthday, as of BotB he's 11, and since Orange Islands was just a mini-season, he doesn't really get older there, so about the middle of Johto would be another year, so he'd turn 12, and between the middle of Johto and the middle of Hoenn would be another year, so then he'd be 13, and the middle of Hoenn to the middle of Sinnoh would be yet another year, so he'd be 14.

All that said, assuming Misty is the same age as Ash, she is about 13-14 years old. But if we assume she's a year OLDER then Ash, like most say she is, she's about 14-15 years old now.

U beat me to that, yeah I knew about that but that's what I mean by if I knew her starting age I'd know her age. Now, she is older than Ash. I would bet my life on that. If I were wrong then, whatever but still I would bet my life on that. I think she's around 15 or maybe 16. I always thought 16.

I think that Misty was 11 or 12 at the start of the series especially because she had more experience than Ash and not only that three Pokemon rather than one. But there is a bit of dialog in the Japanese version of Ash Catches a Pokemon where Misty says that she had the worst night in ten years. So, there is evidence both ways as there are people who say that Misty is only ten at the beginning and not 11 or 12.

I actually heard that Misty was 10 from people who watch the Japanese raw (I think I heard from some fans that Misty said something in the original raw of the episode where Ash captured Caterpie that roughly translated to "This is the worst thing that has ever happened to me in the ten years of my life!", which implies that she's actually 10 years old.)

I mean, some people might have thought that Misty was 12 years old due to "The Electric Tale of Pikachu" (although, considering how many differences in personality and in certain cases, physique, they had, i'd argue that age is also made up by Ono.).

Also, considering the fact that Bugsy and Tate/Lisa are Gym Leaders despite being Ten at the oldest and eight at the youngest, there's still some room for Misty to be more experienced than Ash and still be 10.

Yes, but considering that even if Misty was 10 at the beginning of the anime, she should be at least 17 years old now. Ash was 10 at the beginning and the anime has been going on for almost 11 years. but since some episodes take place the same day in the anime it has been roughly established that the amount of time that passed in the anime equals roughly to 7-8 years. So their ages would be:

Misty: Between 17 - 18 yr
Ash: more like 17
Brock: Bout' 20?
Jessie/James: Jesus, something like 22 or 23
Gary: Same as Ash
Tracey: bout' 18?

There have also been hints that the characters don't age (the Japanese websites for both AG and DP stated that Ash was the same age as Dawn and May, respectively, which, since they were confirmed to be 10 years old, that means that Ash hadn't aged.)

I take that as a joke, since it has been said at the end of Indigo League that a "year has passed" since Ash began his journey back then. In the episode "Battle of the Bade" the narrator says that a year has passed so comon! Of course the characters age! Just look at Ash now, his appearance has changed and look at Brock + his voice is like that of a 20 year old!

We don't necessarily know if that reference was dub added or not. And even IF that was in the original, that still doesn't exactly explain why the AG and DP japanese websites stated that Ash, May, and Dawn are ALL the same age as each other (I mean, May is ten, and according to the AG website, Ash is the same age as her, despite having traveled through two main regions and one "non-game" region.
